Orchestrating the “Cascara"

This is one of Paul’s examples on how to orchestrate “parts” on the drums.  In this example, Paul takes the traditional pattern known as “cascara” ( a pattern typically playedon the shells of the timbales) and plays it on the hi-hat with a combination of stick and foot strokes.  He then adds a melodic element to the orchestration of “cascara,”  and then (in the quick time movie) shows how to add a “groove” element as well.
