Orchestrating the “Cascara" This is one of Paul’s examples on how to orchestrate “parts” on the drums. In this example, Paul takes the traditional pattern known as “cascara” ( a pattern typically playedon the shells of the timbales) and plays it on the hi-hat with a combination of stick and foot strokes. He then adds a melodic element to the orchestration of “cascara,” and then (in the quick time movie) shows how to add a “groove” element as well. |
